Jagex is making a new detail mode for Runescape and a fullscreen option. Here can you find some screenshots and additional info:

Second screenshot, "An Image of the Not-Too-Distant Future":

Development Diary part I(More screenshots and details), just came out today:

I recently started playing Runescape again when I found out about this update. You can probably not compare it to games such as World of Warcraft, but I think it's a nice step forward for Runescape. :)

I never played Rune just because of how AWFUL it's graphics were.

Not a major improvement, and besides, I dont think clicking to get something done, without any variables but level to change the outcome is not entertaining.

Graphics =/= gameplay. Runescape is the same as any other MMO, repetitous action for the reward of getting more "stuff" (levels, items, whatever). It had a pseudohistory and a storyline, like the rest of 'em. If you must play an MMO and don't feel like paying a whole lot, then it's actually a pretty decent option.

That being said, I played it some years ago but I feel no real temptation to ever play it again. It was an interesting look at a lot of things (including a fascinating economy), but at the end of the day it's a waste of time just like all things video game. No graphical update is going to change the gameplay (which was not bad), so for me, nothing's really changing.

So essentially the player models and the ground textures are going to look 20% better which is still not much better.

If the game didnt take a year to walk around, chop wood, fish etc.. I would play it. But waiting to move and click and waiting for the player model to act out my choices feels like "watching paint dry". There are WAY WAY ...WAY too many cool, free, fun , busy, pretty , faster moving, more interesting games out there then run'escape.

Way...way...Way...Way...Way did i mention, way.way.wayway.way ..way

Graphics are pretty much the same. Seems like all they did was make the textures more realistic.

And dont forget a bit less flat! I worry about the people who play runescape, and pull all nighters. What a waste. You sit, stare click, and hope you get better at fishing, or cooking, or smelting.

If it was star wars themed and moved 50% faster I would maybe look at it, make a gt guild etc.. but right now it makes me mash my mouse into my toast.

Lol.

[rant]What annoyed me was me thinking "oh that looks cool, lets go over there passed that gate. *click*"
You have to be on a member server to use this feature.
"ACK!" And I'm not paying for something that ugly, since it'd make me play a lot since when I pay for something I want my moneys worth and more, I mean I am Dutch after all aren't I. I did enjoy it for some time a couple of years ago but I won't play it again, especially not for this, I mean there's barely a difference.

What I also hated was the slow, slow, slow walking from place to place, you can barely run for a minute and then you'll have to wait an hour before you can run again, there's annoying people yelling n00b at everything that walks including NPC's, if you want to be able to mine something nice you'll have to mine OVER NINETHOUSAAAAAAAND useless ores first, same with all other skills, the quests are fun at times but as non member you run out of them pretty fast, and I got hacked and lost a million gp worth of stuff and moneyz I scavenged together bu doing boring things. Not even that.

They didn't have real textures for stuff before, 90-100% of all Runescape objects just had like... Phong coloring. It's about time they realized that some texture would be nice.

I recently played Runescape for several hours, don't know what got into me, but Hey, I got a high enough mining level to get into the mining guild now, I also leveled up to level 77 combat, *sigh* all that waisted time. I even played back in the Runescape 1 days.

Back when I played, I also enjoyed making mockup screenshots. This was one of my favorites:

Well I can't say I'll start rabidly (is that even spelled right? :P) playing again, but I'll definitely play a bit more. It's just another reason to get me back into playing, haha.
Yes, I still play. Not very often. Mostly for talking to people, getting holiday items, and whatever else.
Tiaras rule still :P

Anyways, I personally think that the lot of you guys just don't like Runescape because a mass of people don't like it and will make fun of you for playing it. In fact, I know that about a lot of people. I don't care if people make fun of me. Go ahead. I don't really care. I'll defend myself, but I don't care

I never got into it because of its generic gameplay and its graphics of a third-party N64 game.

I still won't get into it, because of its generic gameplay and "updated" third-party Gamecube game graphics.

All I'm going to say about the graphics: Go out and find a Java game with better graphics than that, and then complain.

I don't play much any more (mainly because of school), but I might get back into it a bit more with the update and its timing (right at the end of school :D)

Exactly. And I understand that some people don't like it for the gameplay (not everyone likes RPGs) but there's not really many other excuses than that. If you don't like it because of the graphics, that's just a made-up excuse. I use this example a lot, but it works: Earthbound... My all-time favourite game. On the SNES. Not very good graphics. Who cares. The gameplay rocks.

Earthbound
...

Where did you get it, and how much? :P

Now you see, I love that series (playing through Mother 3 on a friend's "emu"), but I just don't like Runescape. I think it's the MMO portion of it, or as I once put it "MM No." ;)
