I was cleaning my BF2 CD tonight cuz it was getting dirty and I accidentally cracked the disk and now it's a goner, no longer loading in my computer. I was just gonna go ahead and buy it off Steam to forget about using a CD but then Rogue told me I could play it off Xfire and I tried that but it didn't work, it still asked for the CD (I have the DVD version).

I might just go ahead and buy it, but does anyone know how to run the game without the disk??

At this point, it might probably be wisest to simply purchase a digital copy, as that way you will have a backup to reinstall it should you ever need to.

Well, I was gonna do that but then Rogue also told me that I could put all the files onto another blank DVD and have them backed up on there. But without the computer reading the original CD, how am I gonna do that? Cuz aren't there certain files on the CD that aren't in the gamedata??

Just looked, and yeah, there's a lot that's only on the disk.

I'd normally tell you to buy it off Steam (Valve fanboy ) but you could probably save a few bucks if you're not worried about breaking it again by buying at a store or on ebay.

I've got an idea;
Step1-You'll have to backup all your currently installed files first. (to be on the safe side)
Step2-Install the 1.1 patch
Step3-I'll send you the correct battlefront.exe (for the DVD-version) with the 1.1 patch, which I took from Vaadu's version switcher (Give me some time, I can't acces it right. You could also just search for it on filefront and download the whole switcher) And replace your old .exe.
Step4-Play

Though it may be a good idea to purchase another copy, just to be sure.

Ya, I think I'm just gonna go ahead and buy it off steam and not having to worry about cracking the CD again.

Alright, so I went ahead and bought the game off steam and it's at 100% ready everything but when I launch the game, it gives me a fatal "mission/s" error and it wont continue. I have uninstalled the original game and reinstalled BF2 on steam but it still does not work. Can someone help me please??

I'm stumped with his problem as well, as the game appears to be looking for the file "s.lvl" which to my knowledge is not-existent.

Isn't there a patch avaiable through Steam?

If there is, I haven't found it. Do you have a link for it??

Steam auto-updates, so there are no instructions you can give it to install the latest patches. Anything that was added to the game before you downloaded it will be present in whatever you downloaded.

Have you taken a look at this thread if you are on Vista?

If you are not, I don't know what to tell you. I'm sorry, but it appears the Steam version of the game is rather buggy. There is nothing Valve can do about this, so I suggest contacting LucasArts and talking to them about getting Steam patched up... seems this is a common problem with Steam games.

In regards to your question in the Steam forums about a CD-Key, Steam will not provide you with a key unless you specifically need it for something. I am not aware of Battlefront II requiring a key for any gameplay functions, so it should not be an issue for you.

I have tried that but it still doesn't work. My friend provided me a link called "gamecopyworld" that'll allow me to play the game without using the CD. He said to just download the EXE file and replace the Steam one but the problem is I can't find that file.

Gametoast doesnt provide Tips in How to crack your Game.
Besides of that,you would loose the ability to playSWBF-2 online.
Go and spend the less Money to buy a new Copy.

Yeah, it's probably really cheap nowadays. As in, $10 or less.

YES!!! IT'S FIXED!! Praise the Lord! All I had to do was reinstall Steam and the game works now! Thank you all for your suggestions. The only bummer is that now I have to reinstall all the maps/mods again.

I never ever use the disk its in an old dusty case lol.
i use xfire all the time.
